Sample Group Tour: Culinary
In Chinatown, deciding what kind of Asian cuisine to eat might take you longer than actually eating. Cantonese, Shanghainese, Szechuan...and those are just the Chinese cuisines! Thai, Korean, Japanese, Indonesian, and others round out a list of fares
representing a gastronomic dream for lovers of Asian food. More than 10 distinct Asian fares grace Chinatown's bustling streets. The abundance of cuisines reflects the various origins of immigrants to Chinatown, a neighborhood that has been steadily growing for some 150 years.
In addition to great restaurants, Chinatown is abundant with traditional bakeries, outdoor food stalls and specialty markets offering unique products and ingredients at bargain prices.
During your tour, we'll explore a variety of culinary-related locations, participate in a cooking demonstration and enjoy lunch or dinner in one of Chinatown's wonderful array of restaurants.
At May May Gourmet Chinese Bakery, a source for frozen Chinese comfort food, including dim sum, dumplings, buns and traditional pastries, you'll learn about the significance of dim sum in Chinese culture and enjoy a dim sum sampling.
For a demonstration, choose from a lesson in either seeing first-hand how to prepare and cook a Cantonese appetizer or soup or a demonstration on the art of making traditional cabbage and pork dumplings or the art of making soup dumplings, the long kept secret of the wonderful, juicy steamed buns filled with flavorful broth.
